Write the letters of the alphabet on the board with a space next to each. Split the class into two teams and give each team a different coloured board marker. Pupils in each team take it in turn to write a word to do with Fairtrade beginning with each letter. When they have finished they give the marker to the next person in the team. The team who have filled in the most letters wins.
This can also be used as a group activity – the group who fills in the most letters with Fairtrade words and phrases in a set time limit wins.
Review co-ordinates with the class and check understanding.
In pairs pupils search for the words in the word search and then complete the co-ordinates grid. Finally, they decide on the correct words to complete the Fairtrade sentences. Alternatively, do not give pupils the list of words and see how many words/phrases to do with Fairtrade they can identify.
Pupils create their own crossword clues and swop with a partner.
